When wondering how to write song lyrics its important to consider many different avenues and techniques so you can perfect your process and your craft! This post is part 2 of our series about how to write song lyrics, and instead of the 3 L'S we present the 3 O's of how to write song lyrics :)

1. ORGANIZE

Before diving into specific lyrics and musical phrases you need to organize your thoughts and lay out a specific goal! For example, a song should be identified with a message you want to get across so you can consider how your lyrics will fit into that message. This leads to our next O which is....

2. OPTIMIZE

After you have laid out a general idea of how your song will be organized and the role your lyrics will play in that process, you need to optimize those lyrics to convey that deep emotional connection with your listener! By placing emphasis on each word and how it fits into the bigger picture of your song, you are going to get that message across in a much more meaningful way. So make sure you consider optimizing each word in that song!

3. OVER-OVERTURN

After that song is done and you think you have finished your songwriting process, dive right back in and tweak! Overturn each verse and lyric, then overturn the song again! By constantly working on your song it makes it a dynamic idea until you have perfected it and your lyrics say exactly what you wanted them too. This is arguably the most important aspect when ascertaining how to write song lyrics.
